MIT Falling Apart ?

Bad news in this new Chronicle article.

I’ve always loved the MIT campus. When opportunity presents itself and I’m able to make it to Boston I try to cross the Charles River at least once to take a stroll through the MIT campus and check out some of the various buildings. Being an alumni of Weatherhead (the management school at Case Western Reserve University) I know about Frank Gehry’s design of academic buildings. (The newest home for the Weatherhead school is in a Gehry-designed building.) I had the opportunity to attend a lecture at the Stata Hall during a Neighborhood Networks workshop a couple years ago and got to see that Gehry work close up. (I even bought the book about it!)

Online Survey Software

I’m always looking for some kind of online survey software that allows for complex branching, easy data export, and - most importantly - is cheap. Looked at a few packages: Perseus, SurveyShare, etc.

I recently explored SurveyConsole Web Survey Software with their 30 day trial offer. It’s easy to work with and can be used with complex surveys, but many of the nice features in the trial version are not included in the $29/month basic version. Still it’s a solid product which is very affordable.

World Community Grid

Another grid computing app, the World Community Grid, has been introduced. The purpose of the project (like SETI) is to use millions of PC’s, with the appropriate software installed to perform complex mathematical tasks.
